Matthew Tarkman

Matthew Tarkman, the owner of MT Tattoos in Redwood City, is pictured laughing next to his workstation. He recently closed his parlour of seven years to escape the "Californian grind" and to spend more time with his two daughters. He will continue tattooing at the parlours of friends as he travels state to state. He started tattooing a year after high school and eventually earned enough money to stop couch surfing and establish a more stable lifestyle. He believes that good art is a byproduct of trauma, and he maintains that his life continues to be shaped by his own childhood abuse. Though he has been through a lot, he is a man of great humor.
